I’ve never been bored

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

and the reason is when the day seems like it will be slightly less than exciting I get out my camera and take photographs. If that is an indicator of how frequently I feel in danger of being bored then I haven’t been even close in a very long time. In fact, these are the first pieces of photographic art I have made since January 14, 2009. That is a scary long time, but I was getting interested in other things. I am feeling pretty good about these two, so maybe I’ll make some more. I mean, I should probably use that degree I spent decades getting every once in a while.

Some of you may recognize these flowers from a previous project, completed during my second photography course some four-ish years ago. I sewed them out of fabric from an old t-shirt and gave them wire armatures on a Saturday night during the spring semester of my 3rd year. I know this because I was listening to smooth, sexy R&B songs on the radio. I really do miss listening to Super Soul Saturday. Anyway, here are some new creations.

Due to file size limitations I cannot upload a version of the flower composite that I feel is of adequate dimension. So I am posting each part of the triptych separately.

Portrait #2/Quiet Riot!

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Here is another multi-layer painting/ink drawing I just finished up tonight.

Quiet Riot! – 5″ x 8″ acrylic and ink on Bristol

Like the previous piece I completed, this is mostly an experiment in process. I am trying out some things I haven’t done before. I don’t know where this is headed, but I think I am going to keep following it. Here is a detail shot of Quiet Riot!

First post!

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

I’m going to start this blog off in a way that I hope sets the appropriate tone for posts to come. With luck, I will be posting new work on a very consistent and frequent basis.

I finished this piece last night. It has no particular intent or purpose, and I am still trying to decipher what it is all about.

Untitled – 5″x8.5″  acrylic, pen and bristol

This piece is made up of two acrylic paintings on bristol with 3 layers of inked bristol on top. The wallpaper was made with a stencil I had drawn and cutout several months ago, but had yet to find a purpose for. Here is a detail to show how it is pieced together.

The stencil was cut from bristol and is the most detailed stencil I have ever cut. Stencil measures only 1″x1″ and took quite a few hours to cut out.
